This is slip x slip on the inside. This is the most preferred type of bulkhead. Aquarium application do not need silicone on the gasket. Pond applications silicone on the gasket is recommended for plastic pond liners, premolded ponds, fiberglass, and wood. This can be installed any preference you might have. The threads can go on the inside or the outside of the hole. On ponds you might need the threads on the inside due to space requirements.
This takes standard 1" diameter PVC pipe. For those that want specifics, schedule 40 white PVC that is very inexpensive and found in most home improvement stores/ hardware stores.
Bulkheads are one of the most common purchases of any aquarium owner that has upgraded because they soon realize that wet dry filtration is the best method of filters and most often aquariums are not sold from the mfg company with bulkhead holes pre drilled.
This bulkhead will require a hole 1-3/4" to fit and a max hole of 2-1/8". Holes can easily be drilled as demonstrated below in the video.
